PurSteam 850 Watt Review

The PurSteam 850 Watt is a steamer which is most suitable for those who don’t plan on always having access to a large steamer when they need it. If you find yourself traveling often, for example, the PurSteam 850 Watt is a perfect way to remove any last-minute wrinkles before leaving the hotel room. In fact, it can even do a great job on your commute to work (when you’re parked, of course), assuming you have the appropriate car adapter to run it on. While it may not be the only portable steamer on the market, it is certainly one of the more powerful units among others of its size.

Steam Time Per Filling

You’ll most likely only notice one major issue with the PurSteam 850 Watt; its extremely low steam time. Of course, this is a very portable unit and, thus, has a very small water tank equipped. While this is to be expected, it can’t hurt mentioning that you’ll only get ten minutes or so out of this unit at a time. If you’re looking for something to tackle big jobs at home, this, unfortunately, is not it. It will still get any job done, though you may find it frustrating to constantly have to refill and heat it up again.

Heat-Up Time

The PurSteam 850 Watt has a great heat-up time for the same reason it has a poor steam time; its extremely small water tank. The manufacturer (accurately) notes that you’ll be able to get your new steamer up and running over the course of ninety seconds. This further increases its usefulness in on-the-go situations, being that it allows you to quickly deal with unexpected or previously unnoticed wrinkles before heading off somewhere important.

The PurSteam 850 Watt has no problem getting wrinkles out of clothing. If the product’s name didn’t have its wattage listed in it, this might be very surprising given its size. Relative to bigger models, this steamer has a whole lot of power per square inch. However, the fact of the matter is that the PurSteam 850 Watt is smaller in size. As such, you may need to take an extra minute to get that last wrinkle out, which is why I had to dock it a point in its effectiveness rating. Still, it does an outstanding job for a portable steamer.

If it’s a bit of durability you’re after, the PurSteam 850 Watt will not disappoint. There are a few different factors at play which make it as durable as it is. Firstly, it lacks the abundance of transparent plastic often found on the outer casings of other units. It also has no hose to speak of. While hoses don’t have to be inherently flimsy, the’re typically made of a bendy material to allow for easy cleaning. As you can probably imagine, a bendy hose is never as durable as a solid plastic casing, such as what you’ll see on the outside of this particular steamer. The lack of these two features easily makes it one of the most durable steamers on the market.

Even though the PurSteam 850 Watt’s warranty isn’t the very best on the steamer market, it’s certainly above average in terms of its length. Its three-year term stacks up well against the two-year warranty which is considered as being of an average length across the board. You’ll especially appreciate this warranty when you take into account the PurSteam 850 Watt’s price. Typically, a one-year term can be expected among steamers sold for under one hundred dollars.

Overall Summary

While the PurSteam 850 Watt’s low price might suggest it is of a low quality, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Being a very portable unit, it lowers its cost through coming in a smaller package. While it is certainly one of the better portable units on the market, you’ll have to be able to get past its rather small water tank and steam time per filling.

Otherwise, it’s hard not to appreciate the PurSteam 850 Watt’s great heat-up time, warranty and effectiveness despite its extremely small stature. Whether you need something portable or simply don’t need something which can steam for an hour or two at a time, the PurSteam 850 Watt can be a great convenience and an even greater cost-saving measure.
